Holiday Gift Guide For Art-Lovers
Let me be upfront: this is basically my Christmas List & there’s NO ART SUPPLIES on it!
After reading lots of art-lover gift guides I realized there is NOT A SINGLE ONE that has anything I am interested in. Sure, art supplies are great, and I’m sure someone out there wants an adult coloring book, but I read gift guides to get new & unique gift ideas (& art supplies is neither of those things!). Also, it frustrated me a bit that all these art-lover gift guides were pretty much artist gift guides. But not all art-lovers are artists, so what do we get them?! (I see you admirers & collectors!)
So, here we are. I made my own gift guide with 9 gift ideas & a ton of examples for each idea to help you get creative, thoughtful gifts for your art-lover this year!
Shout out to Santa & my husband…I’ve made it easy for both of you this year…hook your girl up!

Not how-to books. Not coloring books. But REAL art books.
I’m such a big fan of art books as gifts, especially because they play great double duty as coffee table books & can usually fit even the strictest of budgets without looking like a cheap gift! It’s like a gift with a safety net! Even if the person never reads it, a pretty book is always a great decorative accessory! (Pro Tip: Pair with a yummy candle for an extra luxurious touch!)
One of my favorite places to visit is a museum (or anywhere that I can see art!). I think they are so so so underrated by Americans. There are constantly new exhibitions on display, events, and restaurants to visit. Even if the art-lover you are giving a gift to has been to every museum in town, there is no way for them to have been to an exhibit or event that hasn’t happened yet!
If there aren’t any good museums, art fairs, or galleries locally, check out what is going on somewhere nearby. You can make a day of taking a road trip to a nearby city, or if you want to really go big, make it a cool way to tell your art-lover that you are taking a trip somewhere!
Here’s a few examples of where I am going with this:
Fashion is art. Art is fashion. Because no, I am NOT talking about a screen printed Starry Night t-shirt, or Andy Warhol banana socks. I am talking about the beautiful, unique art of clothes making. We are so quick to forget that something functional has to be designed by a human, and that human is an artist. So here are a few of my favorite pieces that are being made by artists right now. Read their back stories, learn about the artist, about their process. Then tell your art-lover all about it when you give them that gorgeous piece of fashionable art!
ART INSPIRED JEWELRY & ACCESSORIES
One of my personal favorite ways to wear my art! I have LOTS of favorites in this section, so let’s just jump right into it!
ART INSPIRED HOME GOODS
If you couldn’t tell, functional art is some of my favorite art! How much more amazing is it to get a handmade, signed, one-of-a-kind vase, than something that everyone can just pick up at Ikea? 1000% more amazing & if you ask me, I’d just rather have a story to go along with the pieces in my home…so here are some that I would love to have!
FINE ART PRINTS
When you think prints, I want you to forget Target & TJ Maxx. Love them, but that’s not what I am talking about. I am talking prints directly from the artist themselves. Think prints you can’t get at a big box store. Think prints that none of your art-lovers friends will recognize. Maybe even think limited edition, hand signed & numbered, or even embellished prints! Yup, this can turn into a really fun & thoughtful gift really quickly! Here are a few of my favorite prints from a few of my favorite artists!
And now, for the main event, because at the end of the day, an original is an original. And, in my only slightly biased opinion, there really is no substitute for original art. The brush strokes. The pencil marks. The intimate connection with another human. To me, there is nothing more luxurious than owning an original piece of artwork. No one else will EVER have it, only you. And if you are thinking, “Natalie, original art is just too much of an investment for me right now!”, well hear me out. Maybe you can’t afford to drop $50,000 for a gigantic oil painting by a well established artist, but listen, you don’t need to. I can guarantee there is an emerging artist out there doing things that speak directly to your soul & their price points are much more easy on the eyes (and wallet). Also, who knows, maybe one day that emerging artist you supported at the start of their career makes it BIG & you now have a seriously expensive piece of art on your hands all because you believed in them before anyone else did! How cool would that be?! Ok, so here are some of my favorite emerging artists out there who I think are making art worth investing in!
***BONUS, the first 7 pieces listed here are UNDER $500!
Maybe you want to get something a bit more personal, or something custom for your art lover. Maybe you want to let your art-lover in on the process! A gift card gives you flexibility. It can be the gift of a commission, or a contribution to that piece your art-lover has been eyeing! The best part is, this won’t come off as one of those gifts that says “I really didn’t try.” A gift card for a specific artist means you have put A LOT of thought into what your art-lover would like & allows them to be part of the process!
Lots of artists offer gift cards & can be purchased directly on the artist’s website! But even if you don’t see gift cards listed on the artist’s website, just ask! I’m sure you’ll be able to work something out that works for the two of you!
Museum memberships, art magazine subscriptions, art course subscriptions! These are all things that are often overlooked & would be wonderful gifts that your art-lover can use on a regular basis! Below I am linking a few memberships/subscriptions I think your art-lover would be over the moon to receive!
And now comment below what your favorite gifts for art lovers are!!
Oh, also, if you get me something from my Christmas list, go ahead and comment below what you got me so that no one else does…I hate having to exchange things…its so tedious!! (*this is me making a joke, but it’s also not*)
